Here’s a thought for everyone to ponder: Multiple dietary organizations, including official US Government agencies, make recommendations on what we should eat on a daily basis. Why do they recommend what they do? Is it possible that they are wrong? What is the logical end result of eating what they recommend? Have you, as the average person, ever sat down to think about it?
My suggestion to you is, do some homework on the subject. “Common knowledge” tells us that fat makes you fat, right? What if I told you that fat helps you lose weight? I don’t mean eating a stick of butter for breakfast (ugh…) but I mean using fat in the right proportions. And when I say “right proportions”, I ALSO don’t mean “1 drip of olive oil on your heaping 2″ pile of spaghetti”.
You all have seen me (Matt), I’m not exactly a big guy, but what if I told you that my typical breakfast in the morning is 3 or 4 eggs, with 2 pieces of toast with about 1.5 tablespoons of butter on that toast (about 3/4 tablespoon per piece)? That’s a little under 17 grams, or 150 calories of fat from the butter alone (and 11g of that is “evil” saturated fat). Plus it’s 7 grams (63 calories) of fat per egg… let’s break this down then:
17g fat from butter (11g of which is saturated fat)
28g fat from eggs (8g of which is saturated)
That’s a good 45g (or 405 calories) from fat alone in my breakfast, a good chunk of which is saturated fat. If the world worked according to the way these “expert nutritional agencies” said it worked, I’d be six feet under right now. But strangely, my blood pressure averages around 100/65, my resting heart rate is somewhere below 60, and has been measured as low as 45 on occasion. Why is that? The answer lies somewhere you wouldn’t think, in the macronutrient that these nutritional experts say should comprise over 60% of our diet, with about half of that amount coming from “whole grains”. I’ll get into it more later, but for now, just take a look at the below video, it’s a short one, but might make you start to at least think about your nutrition on your own, instead of listening to “experts” tell us what’s good without thinking about it. That’s at least a good start.

This is great information Matt! If anybody reads this and wants a bit more info. You can have hours of fun on the web if you google a few things. Try searching on ‘The deadly quartet’ and ‘french paradox’
Have fun!
