Know the power of psyching yourself up or psyching yourself out when lifting heavy weights. It is a very common occurrence to hear people groan and say how heavy the bar is when they are going for max lifts. They take the bar out of the rack for a back squat for example and say – “wow this is heavy, I don’t think I can do it.” When I hear this, I know they just significantly reduced the likelihood that they will succeed with the lift. This is especially true in the lifts which require you to be highly aggressive (like cleans, jerks, snatches). Don’t handicap yourself with that attitude. Instead, visualize yourself successfully completing the lift. Tell yourself you know you can do it. You will be amazed at the difference you experience if you see yourself succeeding with the lift before it starts instead of psyching yourself out.
