So, now that I live up near Romeo, there’s these big giant fields full of apple trees near my house, they call ’em orchards. There’s quite a few of ’em, and they’ve got some *great* tasting apples (or if you’re John B reading this, *yummy* tasting apples, thank you very much 🙂
Seriously, I had a Gala apple yesterday (the only one out of the bag of about 20 that I actually got to eat because the kids ate the rest), and I swear it tasted like candy. Crisp, sweet, no mushiness… I wish I had another one right now.
If you haven’t ever had fresh picked apples, it’s a whole other world compared to the store-bought apples in the grocery store. Most apples in the store have been in storage for months, and they taste like it. Trust me on this one…
So, with that in mind, I’d like to buy a WHOLE lot of apples for folks at the gym, since I drive past these places every single day. Let me know if you’re interested, I plan on picking them up from Verellen Orchards or Westview Orchards – they’ve both got some other fresh fruit that’s in-season, but I don’t have the full list right now.
If you’ve got a favorite type of apple you want, let me know, they have some Honeycrisp there too, they’re more expensive, but seriously, the Gala I had tasted better than any Honeycrisp I’ve ever had in a store.
Another thing to consider in the next month or so, we could actually do a family-type event for those of us with families here at MCCF. We could meet up at one of the orchards up this way and pick our own apples with the kids (or if you don’t have kids, you’re allowed to come too I suppose).
Whacha all think? If you want some apples, let me know, I’ll work on getting prices, but I think it was around $6 or so for a 1/2 peck of apples?

Wow thanks Matt, but I think we’re gonna try going to orchard ourselves as a family outing. That being said can you check on peaches?
Apples grow on trees up there!!
There are apple orchards in Michigan? Next you’re gonna tell me we landed a man on the moon.
I eat a lot of apples (PFP as well as anyone else that has ever seen me post WOD). I don’t know much about this “peck” measurement, but at $6 I would definitely buy some.
The apple picking trip would be right up my wife’s alley too (no kids, but we could bring our dog if it was allowed)
A peck is a pretty giant bag of apples for one person. A half peck is more manageable. If you eat multiple apples every day, it’ll probably be 2 weeks before you finish a whole peck. Put it this way, my kids would eat apples before candy bars (well, maybe…), and it’d take us a long time to go through a whole peck.
I’m from the Romeo area also, my step mom brought some peaches home the other day and they were awesome
