On December 5th, Motor City CrossFit will be joining with affiliates all over the world to participate in the LumberJack CrossFit Memorial Hero WOD to honor the victims of the Fort Hood massacre, when the terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan murdered 14 people ranging in age from 62 years old, all the way to the unborn child of PVT Francheska Velez.
Four of the murdered were members of CrossFit LumberJack, located at Fort Hood.

I was in Texas, a few miles down the road from Fort Hood the day of the shootings. Since that time I have returned to the region twice, and each time I am struck by the magnitude of the tragedy that occurred. It is a terrible thing to say, but when events unfold thousands of miles away, it somehow depersonalizes them, which in turn makes it easier for us to put them aside and consider them “over” all the quicker. Each time I have returned it has been immediately apparent that the events of that day are nowhere close to being “over” for the citizens of these communities, and that it will be years, if ever, before they are able to move beyond the grief, fear, and anger that has ensued. Accordingly I feel it incredibly important that the events of that day be acknowledged and remembered, if for no other reason than to lend support to those that are still experiencing the tragedy.
I have been ill the past several days, but am hoping that I will be recovered in time to participate, but regardless of my ability to participate, I will be in attendance.
Thanks for MCCF for the hospitality Sat/Sun. If you are ever in NJ check out http://www.guerrillafitness.net.
